I’m a firm believer that Flash video will soon overtake Windows Media and Quicktime as the de facto video format for websites that care about usability and the seamless integration of a video player. The guys at YouTube.com are definitely moving in the right direction and helping people to convert their videos into Flash format.
Here’s a nice little interview by Flash Magazine with the CEO of On2 Technologies, the creators of the new Flash 8 video codec, about what’s to come with Flash video. Read the interview here

I’d like to start off by giving great thanks to all of our new MochiBot friends who believed in us enough to sign up for an account and for posting such great blog entries about MochiBot.
It’s been a week since we opened the site up to the public and we’ve been getting great feedback from everyone. (keep it up! :)) We’re seeing more and more new users every day and it’s amazing how much traffic you guys are getting on your Flash content. Here’s a perfect example by Fusionary Media.
We added more features and made some improvements to MochiBot this past week so here are a few things that you’ll see when you log in:
- New - Graphs on the SWF Detail and Traffic Report pages.
- New - There is new MochiBot code so that one script does it all. The new code is now Flash 5 compatible.
- Improved - The MochiBot code is now less likely to conflict with existing levels and var names.
- Improved - SWF version compatibility is now managed on the fly by MochiBot depending on what version the SWF is.
We have more features and improvements coming next week so stay tuned for some more treats.
Thanks again to everyone for helping to spread the word about MochiBot! We’re glad that other people ♥ MochiBot too.

Today officially marks the MochiBot.com public beta launch. It’s been a long time coming and took a lot of all nighters to get to this point, but we’re finally here and it’s a huge accomplishment for everyone. There are still a lot of areas in the site that we need to work on so you’ll be seeing new features pop up every week or so as we push out new builds.
Thanks to all who supported us along the way and for helping us to stamp out our early stage bugs.
I hope that you all find MochiBot useful or at least somewhat entertaining. Please give us any feedback that you may have because it means so much to helping improve the product.
Enjoy!

Ryan’s wife just brought another Nichols to this world yesterday. Congratulations to the Nichols family. That means you won’t be seeing any new design changes in the next few weeks. And if you do, then it’ll probably be something pretty ugly because it was done by either me or Bob.

Happy 4th of July everyone!
A lot of people have been asking me what the term “Flash Pirates” means on the MochiBot homepage. In short, Flash Pirates are people who copy the Flash content that you’ve developed and put it on their own website.
Flash Pirates can either be a good thing or a bad thing. It all depends on how you look at it. Having your Flash work copied to someone else’s website can be good because that means someone likes what you’ve built and it also helps to share your work with a larger audience. However, it can also be a bad thing if the Flash Pirates take credit for your work. Arrrggghhh!
Typically it’s a good thing when someone puts forth the effort to copy, host and share your Flash work. The only problem with that is once your Flash files leave your server you have no way of seeing how much traffic that content is generating. With MochiBot, though, Flash developers are able to see how much traffic their work is generating no matter how many Flash Pirates get a hold of it. Most people don’t even know that their Flash work gets copied and hosted on other websites. You’d be surprised how many pirates are out there.
…and that’s why we use the term Flash Pirates on the MochiBot homepage.
Sail swiftly and let MochiBot protect you from savage plundering!
